Borkenkäfer-Borke

Very few areas are spruce monocultures, signs of silviculture evils of the past. Here in the last years the bark beetle has been raging requiring a complete clear-cutting in some spots. The good news is that the natural regeneration appears to work, there is hope for a healthy mixed forest. It just needs some support against ravening roe deer, who like the delicious terminal buds of the young trees in the winter time. The bag limit has been increased and the young forest will obtain a protecting fence.
